An Art Initiative with Artistic Thoughts!
SenseArtAbility is an art initiative by Mikaa5 as we are on the hunt for artists in young minds, we are happy to identify talents wherever it may be and start to nurture it from grassroots level. Mikaa5 strongly believes that art in any form is beyond abilities of human senses; it’s doubtlessly a combination of creativity, determination, presentation and self-motivation.
SenseArtAbility is an art competition for kids conducted by Mikaa5 both online and offline for all kids both abled and differently abled.
As a start to our journey of finding budding talents in the field of Art we conducted our first offline Art Competition titled SenseArtAbility 2019 on 5th December 2019 at St. Louis Institute for Deaf & Blind, Gandhi Nagar,Adyar between 2pm to 4pm.
Around 50 Blind students and 100 Deaf and Dumb students participated in the competition. It was shocking for us to witness children who are visually impaired and blind to actually use the braille and draw what they actually have in their mind.
“Beauty lies in the eyes of the Beholder”, who can deny the old adage which speaks a millions truth and we witnessed it with our own eyes. When asked students how they felt about the art competitions the blind students said that they have been to singing competitions and music competitions most of the time, participating in an art competition is something new to them and this is the 1st time that they are actually participating in an art competition, they were overwhelmed with joy and said that they are happy that if they win they would receive prizes for this competition.
Bro. John Xavier the correspondent of St. Louis Institute of the Blind and deaf and dumb said that he is glad that Mikaa5 as an Art organization has come forward to encourage differently abled students to perform in an Art competition and reward them however he is more happy that we also encouraged the Blind students to participate. He readily welcomed this move and wanted us to encourage more students in our journey. Bro. John Xavier also met with our Director Mr. Alagar Raja Ponniah who is the man behind all these works and encouraged him and requested him to do more of these programs to encourage youngsters especially differently abled students.
